CHILDREN'S TOURS

Since reopening in late 2005 after a major restoration project, the Dyckman
Farmhouse Museum staff has been working hard to develop exciting new curriculum
based programming that incorporates our new interpretation and new research at the
Farmhouse. The program we currently offer is described below. We will also be testing
new programs during the coming school year, and they will be posted here as they
become available.

A Day at the Farmhouse: Farm and City - 90 minutes
(Recommended for grades 3 - 6. Please contact the Education Director to discuss
modifications for other grade levels.)

This program introduces students to the Dyckman family and their farm in the year
1815. The farmhouse, built in 1784 and the center of a 250 acre farm, was home to
Dyckman family members, servants and an enslaved man. Although the farmland no
longer exists primary source document study, room analysis and engaging
discussions allow students to consider what life was like in the farmhouse and on the
farm in the past. This program also examines how the house and neighborhood have
changed over time.

A portion of the program involves splitting the class into four small groups to read and
answer questions about certain rooms in the house. If you have questions or concerns
about this format, please feel free to contact the Education Director.

Tour Cost
We ask $1 per student. The required number of adults, one adult per ten children, are
admitted free. Each additional adult is asked to pay $1.

There is a $20 deposit required for each scheduled tour, which counts toward the total
cost of the trip. If this deposit is not received by the date specified in your confirmation
letter we cannot guarantee your time slot will remain available. Cancellations within 48
hours of the scheduled tour will result in the loss of the deposit.

How to Book A Children's Tour
School group reservation requests are not handled over the phone. Please download
the reservation form, complete it, and return it to the farmhouse via fax or regular mail.
Be sure to fill out the form entirely, and include two potential dates and times for your
trip.

ADULT TOURS
Adult groups are also invited to enjoy a guided tour of the Farmhouse and grounds by a
staff member. These tours are by appointment only, and the group size cannot exceed
20 adults. The cost of the tour is $2 per person, and we require a $20 deposit for each
scheduled tour.

To book an adult tour, please fill out the Adult Tour Reservation Form, found at the link
to the left, and return it to the Farmhouse via fax or regular mail.
